POS (Point-of-Service Plan)
What should I Know?
A POS plan gives you more freedom than a
strict HMO but is also more expensive. You will have
a primary care physician (PCP) that usually makes the referrals
to other providers in the plan. You also have the option to refer
yourself outside the plan and still receive restricted coverage.
If your PCP makes a referral to a doctor outside of the network,
the plan pays for all or most of the bill. If you refer out of the
network and the service is covered by your plan, then you will need
to pay coinsurance.
